Three men have been killed and one critically injured after a car was involved in a crash near the Brent Cross shopping centre in north London.

Officers were called to reports of a car crash at Staples Corner retail park at 11.26pm on Sunday, the Metropolitan Police said.

They found five men, believed to be in their early 20s.

Three were pronounced dead at the scene, while two were taken to hospital.

Of those, one is in a critical condition, while the other sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Met officers attended along with London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.

It is not believed that any other vehicle was involved, the force added.

Inspector William McDonald, one of the officers responsible for policing Barnet, said: “Emergency services responded last night to what seems to have been a terrible accident.

“An urgent police investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances, led by detectives from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

“Officers are in the process of informing the families of the five young people. The families will be supported by specialist officers. I send them my sincere condolences.”

There have been no arrests.
