UK

A convicted murderer is at large after failing to return to prison.

Police in Northern Ireland are searching for James Meehan, 55, who has been serving a life sentence.

He failed to return to HMP Magilligan in Limavady, Co Londonderry, after day release on Monday, said officers.

They are appealing for information to help them locate Meehan, who was convicted of murder in 2009.

Police are also urging the killer to turn himself in.

A spokeswoman said: “We are appealing to anyone who has seen him, or who knows of his whereabouts, not to approach him directly but to contact police on 101.”

Alternatively, they can provide information to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
